'Our Favourite Stories

For the first part of this term our topic will be 'Favourite Stories'.  We would like to make a display in the classsroom of all the children's favourite books.  Could you please send into school a photograph of your child reading their favourite book, so that we can add it to our display.

Happy New Year, we hope you have all had a good break and are looking forward to the term ahead.  For the first half of this term we will be focusing on our favourite stories.  This week we have been:
  • Reading the story 'Cant You Sleep Little Bear?' and learning all about winter.
  • Thinking about light and dark sources of light.  
  • Making lanterns.
  • Learning about looking after birds and other animals in winter.
  • Making monkey nut strings and cakes for the birds.
  • Talking about winter clothes and investigating how to keep warm.
  • Investigating ice.

This week we have been very busy getting ready for Christmas, we have been:
  • telling the Christmas story in a variety of ways.
  • sewing Christmas stockings.
  • making and icing Christmas biscuits.
  • singing Christmas songs.
  • making food to leave out for the reindeer.
  • having a Christmas party and a Christmas lunch.

Thank you to everyone who came to the 'Meet the teachers' session after school, for those of you that weren't able to make it please find attached the documents that were given out. Can I also please remind everyone that on Friday we are celebrating  European Languages Day and Acorns will be focusing on Holland.  Could the children please wear red, white and blue (the colours of the Dutch flag) and if they have anything typically Dutch, please could they bring it into school to share with the rest of the class.
